My new computer came with 2 sticks of 256mb DDR2 (4200) RAM... I wanna double it, and have a gig of RAM. Would DDR2 let me simply add a 512mb stick, or would I have to add 2 256mb sticks so that they all would match... I know with earlier RAM like everything had to match perfectly.... was just wondering what I can do with DDR2 RAM... Thanks...

Just get two sticks of 512 MB. How many slots do you have for it anyway?
They work better if u get identical sets....get the 500 ones if u want though...its ur choice...dont blame us when u get ur butt kicked in CS after upgrading:D

baha said "500s" therefore he was referring to the sticks with ram in the 500 mb range. ;)

You can get the 1 stick of ddr2 and put it in to total 1 gig. The best performance is less sticks, however. The way i would go is 2 512 MB sticks. But, you will be fine just getting 1 512 stick and using the current 2 256 sticks as well. Put the 512 stick in the first ram slot though.

Funny thing is, there's only 512 that's in the "500 range."
There is 564 too.....but that wasnt compatible with any of the motherboards but one....so it was discontinued...now blix....go take a warm tall glass of krayz
[quote=Sveach,Aug 22 2005, 12:56 PM][quote=Underdog,Aug 21 2005, 11:38 PM] My new computer came with 2 sticks of 256mb DDR2 (4200) RAM... I wanna double it, and have a gig of RAM.
564? Huh?
001000110100 = 564
001000000000 = 512

Why would the make 564? That'd be like making a 312 stick. Or a 260 stick.
