No, I mean Womb is trying to prove himself wrong. As you said, you can still slide to first if you're coming back from an attempted steal or if there was a pop fly. Womb was almost reassuring his defeat.:P

you are allowed to slide into first. i know because i watch baseball on ESPN and listen to most of the white sox games on the radio

however, you are taught at a young age to not do it because of the high risk of injury. so yes you can do it, but it's probably better to just run it out because you are allowed to overrun first base
