The header man

Who the hell is the guy in the header. I never expected that question to be so dominant.

Only steers and queers come from Texas, and you don't look much like a steer to me so that kind of narrows it down.

Who is he?

Meet R. Lee Ermey, also known as "Gunnery Seargant Hartman" in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket. This guy worked himself into the acting business in a very special way. He asked director Kubrick to play Hartman's character in Full Metal Jacket and sent a videotape with him fighting and cursing at a tennisball machine. Later, Kubrick assigned him to play Hartman.

Ermey wasn't an actor; he was in fact a man in the fields. He didn't have to play at all; he just practised his act as seargant.

Do you suck dicks? No? Bullshit, I bet you could suck a golfball through a gardenhose!

After FMJ, he was typecasted as a person with authority (Sheriff, sgt etc.) in a tremendous amount of movies, including Toy story, Frigtheners, the new Texas chainsaw massacre movie and a whole lot more.

The openingscene of Full Metal Jacket has been partially written by Ermey and man, I cannot think of a better way to impose a bunch of marines. (or 'pukes' for that matter)
