This past Sunday a main UPS in our datacenter failed, this caused our core routers to go down and we lost connectivity for just under 1 hour. Since this main UPS failed, some of our resources would unexpectedly reboot if we had to switch from commercial power to our generators, so we went to generator immediately and have been on generator power since Sunday morning.
Today we will be returning from generator power, APC is on site and working with our engineers and support staff to ensure everything goes smoothly, they have repaired the UPS and will be bringing it back online as we go from generator power to commercial power, we expect no interruption of service for most customers.
A few customers, we estimate less than 1%, however may experience a power interruption of less than 30 seconds, causing servers to power cycle, so you may wish to schedule a shutdown of your machine prior to the transition. The good news is that if you have experienced unexpected reboots as of recent, and you experience one during our maintenance tonight, your situation will improve drastically, as we’ll replace the UPS you are on with a new one.
This maintenance will be taking place at 8:00pm tonight, New York Time.
